How Does It Work

The Lasso unit uses Global Positioning Satellites (GPS) and either a cellular control band called the Aeris network or GSM/CDMA/ReFlex to locate and report a vehicle location. Using any internet accessible computer, log-on to your own personal account, select the vehicle you wish to track (if you have multiple vehicles registered) and click LOCATE. After only a few seconds, a map will appear showing the exact location of the vehicle, how fast it is traveling and the heading direction. If you want to look at where the vehicle has been just look at the historical data that accumulates in our database everytime a manual or auto locate has occured.

How Much Per Month

As in any type of 2-way communication service, there is a cost related to the use of airtime, most of the time, pennies. This cost is related to the way you will be using the unit. Will you want the unit to make its location known every 5 minutes or every 4 hours or once per month. Since cost is associated with each communication, the more the unit communicates the higher the cost. Contact us for precise pricing.

Can I view a data log containing a complete driving history?

Your on-line account will only contain the history of each time the vehicle had a request sent for a Locate and the results received from the vehicle or the chosen plan of autolocates or additional information such as ignition off/on, set geofence, compromised geofence, door lock/unlock, etc.

What is a "Locate"?

A locate is the result of a request from you to find your vehicle. In essence, once you click on Locate from our web site, a message is sent to the unit to return the latitude and longitude of the position of the vehicle. This information is then sent back by the unit to our web servers where it is grabbed by our application server and placed in our database servers. Then, the lat. and long. is then sent to our reverse geocoder server followed by the map servers where it is then sent to your web browser. If you have the application automatically grabb the data on a predetermined set time such as every 5 minutes then the new data is available to you whenever you bring up the application.

What is a "Auto Locate"?

Auto Locates occur when you choose a plan for so many locates per month. These locates can occur once per week, once per day or whatever package you decide to purchase. These locates are automatic and you need do nothing else.

What is the difference between a "Locate" and "Tracking"?

Locates are events occuring when you request the whereabouts of the unit through our web application. Tracking is a continous locate for a period of time. Some of our Lasso units are pre-configured not to do tracking.

How do I handle getting more Locates per month if I've used up my monthly service plans allotment?

For some Lasso units you would simply call or email us and ask for additional locates (pings). The application lets you know how many locates you have in your account. For those who have a Lasso unit that is for multiple locates per day (frequent) then your monthly fee looks after this automatically.

What kind of coverage area can I expect?

Depending on the unit, tracking is available in most all regions of world. Some units are specifically designed for the US, Canada and Mexico.

When can I locate a vehicle?

With an Internet connection, you can locate your vehicle 24 hours a day, 7 days a week. There is no additional or special software required. Your only limitation for locating a vehicle is the number of remaining "Locates" you have left in your current service plan for that month.

Is my account data secure?

Your account is protected on a secure site and passwords are needed to enter the site and your account. In addition, the servers where your information resides can only be accessed internally by our iPursuit application. As well, our servers are double redundant and your data is backed up automatically and regularly.

How is the Lasso unit installed?

Standard installation requires that the main transceiver unit be mounted securely in the vehicle (under the dashboard, under a seat or in the trunk) wherever 12VDC power is available and is always on. Secure the device, connect the power cable to positive and ground, then attach the antenna. Voila… that's all there is to it!

For the wiring of additional options such as door locks, sensors or even general installation services, please contact your GPSPursuit Customer Service Dept. for assistance in locating a mobile installer in your area.

Some units are designed to just place in the glovebox with no addional installation.

What can I expect once I purchase a unit?

Once a unit has been purchased it will be shipped to you within weeks already pre-configured. All you need to do is install it or if its a battery operated one, just place in your car or person, log on to the application with your username and password and begin locating.
